Place
Odyssey and the Art of Walking is an experiment in better acquainting
ourselves with the world we live in, one step at a time. It is inspired, in part, by
High Sierra Camp
loop trips in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park. One of the main goals of Place Odyssey is to provide opportunities for
long-distance walking without the burden of carrying all of the necessary
provisions. Another goal is to explore the idea
of sense of place through deep immersion in landscape with all
of our senses...including the sense of imagination. The main organizer and trip leader,
Adrianna Hirtler,
is an out of season National Park Service ranger naturalist who dreamt up
the idea on a long walk in Yosemite. Like Odysseus, she struggled to
get back to her home of Ithaca to make the dream a reality. Join us
for a walking trip or contact us to develop a custom trip or program of your
own.
Place Odyssey is based out of Ithaca, New
York...with toes in Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park,
Mount Hood in Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range, Latvia in Eastern Europe,
Tuscany in Italy...and maybe in Odysseus's Ithaca too.
