Adrianna Hirtler is the main trip organizer and leader for Place Odyssey and the Art of Walking. She thought up the idea while on a long walk in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park. She has been working in environmental interpretation since 1997 at several amazing places including Yosemite, Grand Canyon National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon, and the Finger Lakes State Parks in Upstate New York. She has a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in Natural Resources and a Master's degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon with a focus on cross-cultural perceptions of nature. In 2005/2006, she spent nine months in Latvia (Eastern Europe) on a Fulbright grant. While exploring relationships between nature and culture, she volunteered at the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve, at the Latvian Museum of Natural History and with a training program for Latvian Environmental Interpreters. She has also lived in Germany and Italy. Everywhere she wanders, she always walks a lot, is insatiably curious, finds herself drawn to wild places and new ways of seeing the world...and is eventually drawn back to her roots in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. |
